My son Ryan and I first attended International Brotherhood Days in 1993,
the 6th gathering
of this event. Severt was in very poor health during the 6th Annual
Brotherhood Days, yet
each morning he arrived to wake the gathering just after sunrise.
Severt would take the time
to shake everyone's hand and share his thoughts with us in spite of
the fact that at times it was
very difficult for him to speak. By the end of the eighth day event
Severt had grown stronger
and he related to us that he had, "... gained strength from all the
good things that were
happening at Brotherhood Days." It was everyone's hope
that Severt would recover fully,
but this was not to be, the Owl called Severt's name on August 24th,
1993, just over a
month after the end of the 6th Annual International Brotherhood Days.
I often think of how
Severt gave the strength of his last days on Earth trying to bring
people together in
understanding and respect. Severt hoped that International Brotherhood Days
would continue
to grow. This web page is my tribute to this hope, and to honor the
memory of my friend
Severt Young Bear Sr.

The stories found at the top of this page are told by Brotherhood Days
participants.
The first is an article written by myself which was published in "Native
American Smoke
Signals, Voice of the Nations," in the spring of 1994. The
article relates my experiences
in July of 1993 at the 6th Annual International Brotherhood Days.
