Wanbli Wacin Hin Ska,  Lakota Pony Rides

Located five miles north of    Manderson,  South Dakota,  on the Pine Ridge Reservation.  Owned and  operated by Alex White Plume,  a founding member of the Bigfoot Memorial Riders and a well know leader in his community.  Alex possesses a wealth of knowledge of his people and their history.  Lakota Pony Rides offers  horseback riding  by hour, day, or week.  During the rides, and at night,  historical and cultural  insights are an intregal part of the experience.  Reservations are recommended. Singing Horse Trading Post Primitive Camp Ground

Located seven miles north of Manderson, SD. on BIA highway 33,   1/2 mile north of  "The Gooseneck." Owned and operated by Rosie and Howard Oleson, 'Singing Horse' offers tipi camping,  trail rides, hiking, historical and biological tours.  Also available are a wide range of craft supplies,  locally crafted bead and quill work,  dance regalia, and custom made moccasins.   Rosie and Howard can be reached by snail mail at:

                                      George W. Brown, Jr. Ojibwe Museum & Cultural Center

If you are planning a vacation in Northern Wisconsin , don't pass up the opportunity to visit this outstanding museum.    Located in Lac du Flambeau,  just west of Minocqua,  this is one of the Midwest's best tribal museums.  Workshops and classes are held throughout the year for those that wish to learn of the crafts, culture and history of the Ojibwe people.  Admission  $2.00 Adults     $1.00 for children  For Information call  715-588-3333

WA-SWA-GONING

"Living village"   located on the Lac du Flambeau reservation just off highway 47,  west of Minocqua, Wisconsin.  Outstanding opportunity to witness recreations of traditional Ojibwe dwellings,  birch bark canoes, tools and artifacts.  Guided tours take approximately 1 to 1 1/2  hours.  You will be shown the technical know how of old-time Ojibwe life ways as well as cultural insights, perspectives and historical information.   Wa-Swa-Goning has been featured in Time-Life books, Readers Digest,  Wisconsin Trails, Mid-west Living, Wisconsin Public Broadcasting,  Minnesota Public Broadcasting and Canadian Public Broadcasting. Operated by Ojibwe artist and cultural interpreter, Nick Hockings.  For times and information call 715-588-2615 or 715-588-3560.

**Special note**

For planning purposes, the living village of Wa-Swa-Goning and and the George W. Brown Museum and Cultural Center  can be easily done in a single day or even an afternoon.  Both facilities have excellent gift shops where books and locally crafted goods and artwork may be purchased.  On Tuesday nights,   a dance or pow-wow,  is held during the summer season at the Indian Bowl nearby the museum.
